Are Mallett, Gabbert, Newton and Locker all that much better than Clausen, last year's second-round pick? I'm not certain. The last time the Panthers had a pick this high, they went with Julius Peppers second overall in 2001. Two years later, they were playing in the Super Bowl. Bowers might not be Julius Peppers right away, but he's got the potential to be one of the league's best sack masters. The nation's leader in sacks (15.5), he's a beast off the edge. Carolina's D was even worse than the offense this year. Though this might not wow the local fan base, it's a pretty surefire pick.


I wasn't a big fan of Meeks and thought our defense was too soft and undisciplined at times because we gave up points early in the game/ I thought our D looked better than it was due to turnovers in the redzone. But the last statement makes me wonder how these guys have jobs.

 

Wow... Defense was almost decent this year. I think we could use some help, but there's no way it was worse than offense.

 

I'm not sure anything has ever been worse than our offense this year.

 

The defense overall was fine. When you stay on the field all the time you waer down. I'd rather have Fairley.

 

our D was the only brightspot this year. concidering they actually played 24 games. for what they were asked to do they did well.

they allowed 25 pts per game average. the qb's combined gave 21 interceptions.

 

And to make matters worse the offense couldn't stay on the field and the defense would've been even better had they not tired out.

Furthermore Bowers isn't even the best DE in the draft. If it were my choice its Fairley.
