Yeah, they tried to do a deal on draft day, But the Bronco's only had 6 picks, probably looking at getting a future fifth or sixth for him.

Broncos | Close to acquiring Sauerbrun? - from www.KFFL.com
    Sun, 1 May 2005 07:04:16 -0700

Updating a previous story, Steve Reed, of the Gaston Gazette, reports the Denver Broncos appear to be close to acquiring P Todd Sauerbrun from the Carolina Panthers. However, sources said there remain a few details to be worked out and it could take a couple of weeks before a deal is officially consummated. The Panthers will reportedly get a draft pick in return, but it's not likely to be anything higher than a fourth-round draft choice.

He can always give Romanowski a call to get a Colorado connection. I'm sure he had one there before BALCO.

AP reports an NFL source said Sunday the Broncos have received permission from the Carolina Panthers to bring in embattled P Todd Sauerbrun in the next week. Part of a deal likely would include restructuring Sauerbrun's contract, which has three years remaining. A restructured contract would help Denver for salary cap reasons and give Sauerbrun a big signing bonus. Known for being brash and confident, Sauerbrun was arrested for an alleged DUI in 2004 and was implicated in a steroids investigation along with other Carolina players in a recent "60 Minutes II" report. The NFL and the Panthers are investigating the allegations.

Getting something for him from Denver would be nice, it would help sooth the sting of the pick we gave up for Jeff Lewis to them.
