Wbt said he was at a team party. I wonder if it was an official function? Arrested on Caldwell street. Party I think was at Holiday Inn. Brett McMillian also said that at team functions he had heard of that they did not have alcohol.

He will not go to court before the end of the season. Coop got a couple of hall passes, so will Todd. It will be interesting to see what happens this spring though.

No Operators License means he didn't have it with him, if he had lost his license It'd be Driving While License is Revoked.

Panthers punter arrested on DWI charge

Panthers punter Todd Sauerbrun was arrested Wednesday night on drunk driving and speeding charges, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said. Sauerbrun, 31, was charged with driving while impaired, speeding, and driving without a license, records show.

Police spokesman Keith Bridges said the Panther player blew .19 on a breath-alcohol test, well over the state's legal limit of .08. He was charged with driving 64 mph in a 35 mph zone on South Boulevard, near uptown Charlotte.

Sauerbrun was released from the Mecklenburg jail on a $1,700 bond, records show.

Sauerbrun was stopped on Caldwell Street near the downtown area, said Julia Rush, a spokeswoman for the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Department. Initial reports indicated Sauerbrun was leaving a team party at a downtown hotel.

Rush said Thursday that Sauerbrun also was charged with speeding and driving while his license was revoked. He was released early Thursday morning on $1,700 bond, she said.

    "He was cooperative," Rush said.

Sauerbrun has led the NFC the past three seasons in gross punting average - the only player since 1970 to do so. He's also had a high profile on the field with the Panthers, 6-7 and battling for a playoff spot and a chance to defend their 2003 NFC championship.

The Panthers let him veto a tryout for kicker Bill Gramatica earlier in the season. Sauerbrun has a running feud with the entire Gramatica family - Bill Gramatica; brother Martin; even baby brother Santiago.

When the Panthers asked in November about bringing Bill Gramatica, a free agent, in for a tryout, Sauerbrun objected.

"I don't want to get along with (Bill), he's a stereotype kicker just like the rest of his brothers are. That's all he'll ever be and there's no place for him here," Sauerbrun said.

Sauerbrun also has been fined by the team for being overweight. In November, he said the team has fined him some $40,000 - $6,000 for each week he's weighed in at more than 217 pounds.

Then Sauerbrun offered to fill in for injured kicker John Kasay, but only if the team forgives some of the fines. Carolina, which said there's no place for the extra pounds Sauerbrun carries on his stocky frame, rejected the offer.

Sauerbrun said he simply can't control his appetite, even before a weigh-in. He said the most over his prescribed weight that he has been this season has been four pounds.

"It's really hard for me to skip a meal. I can't go to bed hungry. I can't do it. I've tried, man, I've tried," he said. "I like meatloaf, gravy, mashed potatoes."
