that's not really true. While guys like Peyton and McCarthy should be able to handle their players' limitations, the QBs should really try their damndest to be with the program, too. Seems like it's always the lazy unstoked guys who have to have the playbook shortened for them, not the idiots. Unless guys like Collins and Brooks are both.

I agree that the QB's need to do their best to keep up, and that any scheme should have complexities to it. But six inches? That just seems a bit over the top, imo.

Dan Henning's Atlanta playbook was 550 pages in 1992 (not sure the year was right)

You don't have a source for that by any chance, do you?

Anyway, I was referring to McCarthy's offense and not defending Henning's of 1992, so I'm not sure about the relevance here.

It shows that teams have various playbook sizes and it's not relevant to the use of the playbook itself. I'm not arguing that McCarthy was or wasn't doing anything, but he's certainly being scapegoated, when he's a fine coordinator and a hell of a tactician, just because he left.

And yes, I have a source - thought about buying it, but wanted a newer copy (it's an 86). A coach I know has a copy. He's got a 97 Bills, which was another horrid offense Henning coached, but he was there one year and I doubt they put in his actual offense (and a page listing isn't added).

How's he being scapegoated? I just think 6 inches of plays is a bit extreme. I don't think anyone is scapegoating him.
