I think it is is Toefield's your backup.

Hell - maybe toefield's better than we think. I would be concerned about him getting 200 carries, though.

Toefield. Williams proved in College that he can handle the carries.

He still hasn't proven he can blitz pickup, though.

DW and Toefield will be fine. We would be smart to add another back who can play for depth but they are good enough for a one two combo. Toefield actually looked pretty good when he got a chance to play in Jacksonville.

Where does this come from? I've heard this before around here but haven't seen it in the games. In fact, I've seen him pick up a number of blitzes. I don't remember the quarterback taking hits and getting sacked because he missed an assignment. People seem to say that is one of the reasons he hasn't gotten more carries but we all know and have seen how fox sticks with a starter for far too long.

So I wanna know, where does this idea that DW can't pick up the blitz come from?

Watching him in games, having the announcers pont it out and replay it a half dozen times while commenting on why the first round pick is the backup.

I don't remember which game, might have been tampa - which he ran quite well in. But it's a known problem, and Williams has even conceded it's a problem.

I seem to remember that one instance too but I also wonder if that was a single instance that has rolled into this "he can't pick up the blitz" tag on him I read around the net. I've seen almost every RB we've ever had miss a blitzing LB every now and then. I also believe that most announcers don't seem to know their ass from a hole in the ground.

I'm just curious how much of this idea is manufactured and how much is reality.

I think Williams admitting it made it a bit more real.

Luckily, I'd think blitz pickup is easier to learn than being a stud RB.

or, get two receivers opposite him to spread defenses, and get a better line to make sure we can hold in spread without being susceptible to bringing 6.

Well yeah, but they got the receivers and are working on the line. I suppose I was just curious what Thelt thought they should do in order to realize they are a passing team any different than what they are doing.
