That's at least 5 gone. Then maybe Haz, Turner, Mularkey, Sherman.

    Lots of vacancies.

    Turner should go.
I'm not sure about Mularkey. But it's odd as hell to think of these guys getting the axe after 32 games - Erickson deserved it, but these guys aren't that bad.

college coaches seem to be getting tons of buzz. Looks like Saban might've undone the damage that Butch Davis and Spurrier left behind - Iowa's Kirk Ferentz and Oklahoma's Bob Stoops being central in discussion.

Ferentz had a hell of a program, but at 7-4, they slipped a little, even if they do beat Florida. Same for Oklahoma, coming off a nice win over Oregon. Both could have the right time to make that leap.

Gregg Williams might be up to the highest bidder, and that bidder might be Dan Snyder. It'd be funny to see Williams make as much or more than Gibbs.

Ferentz won't be leaving Iowa til his kids graduate which I think his youngest is 12-13. He's been very open about his intentions there. He made some comment this spring that basically said his kids would never forgive him if they moved again before they were all out of the house. That family seems to have planted some solid roots in Iowa City and Ferentz is a true family man from what I can gather.

Stoops, until this year I would have said he'd stay in the college game, just because he loves college football. He's made comments that make it sound like he feels he wouldn't thrive in the NFL because it's a totally different atmoshpere which he is not familiar with. Although, his staff has been plucked clean and if he isn't able to backfill those positions with similar quality, his reign might incure a major setback.

Both have long term contracts in place, so it's hard to say. But I would think that Stoops would be more likely to go for the payday than Ferentz at this point.

contracts are there for ego and recruits. Don't think the pros won't give more money.
Probably a valid situation with Ferentz, though it's the right time to get out.

Oh they'll certainly throw more money at them and I think Stoops would be wise to cash in now. I can see them having a rough road the next few years if he doesn't get some names for assistants. There has been alot of turnover in college football this year, lots of DI assistants going 1-AA to be head men.

The only way I can see Ferentz leaving before his kids graduate is if the Hawks win a national title. That might be too good a situation to pass up.

Keep in mind, Ferentz is one of the only Hayden Fry deciples to ever coach in the pro's, at least, I am hard pressed to think of anyone else. Does that really mean anything...probably not, but you got Patterson at SD State, Snieder at KSU (retired), McCarney at Iowa State, Bilemma at Wisconsin as well as Alverez, The SToops brothers, Long at San Diego State...and many more assistants. It's just these guys seem to be groomed for collegeball and most don't seem inclined to go to the show.

Ferentz supposedly says he'll now consider a pro coaching job, which does make some sense given the grief he got for Iowa's season this year (unbelievable given what he's done for the program). He'd make a great pro coach in my opinion. And on the other side, it's hilarious that Greg Williams is actually getting consideration. He's apparently a very good DC, but he was a disaster as the head coach in Buffalo and I simply do not believe that he has the qualities to be even a competent HC in the NFL. Why some owners equate having a solid season as a coordinator with being a good HC is something I will never understand. They are very different jobs.

Guess it's a good thing we have Fox. As much as we complain about the coaching staff, I'd hate to have to replace him right now.
