exactly. Go back to the Shelton threads, everybody. Davis wasn't ridiculously successful because he was big.

We need a guy who can run well inside. I don't think Williams can't, but that roleplayer last year was Foster and he's done.

What happened when Bettis retired? They stuck a smaller faster guy in there in Parker and he had plenty of success. A big back is fun to watch but it will not solve our problems in the running game. Put DW on a team with a solid OL and he is good for over 1200 yards easily.

Um no. Bettis was already splitting carries with Parker. When Bettis reired they used another big back in tandem with Parker.

I would love for the Panthers to throw some money at Jamel Lewis. He's exactly what they want in a back and last year for Cleveland he had over 1300 yards and 9 TD's. I know the guy has some tread on his tires but so did Davis when we got him. Still let Williams be the starter but give Lewis 30-40% of the touches. We just have to make sure our o-line gets better at run blocking. I'd easily give him what we were paying Foster.

Cleveland wants to keep him, he may not even see FA. Then there's that little matter of a cocaine related jail sentence, JR probably wouldn't sign off on him. But hell yeah, he's a good back.

Derrick Ward was a beast at Fresno State. That is what it is, granted, but I think he could do well if we got our run blocking up to where it needs to be. Plus, he'd be cheap.

Yes there was a transition period but they did not go chase another big back they just went with a small fast back in Parker. They have some big backs on the roster but Parker gets the lions share of the carries when he is healthy.

I think they wanted a big back. They roled the dice on Duce (Staley) and pretty much latched onto Davenport as soon as he was freed by the Packers.

They are happy with Parker starting. They may want to pair him with a big back but they are not trying to replace him.
