Not from a business perspective. Wins and losses are critically important, and certainly play a large role in how ardently fans will support the team, but currying favor with the fan base is just as or perhaps more important from a business perspective. That's especially true in a place like New York where fans tend to be overly reactionary and have a lot of other entertainment options on which to spend their discretionary income. The Jets have to play football, but they have to play the P.R. game as well.

Also, I love how I'm on "ignore" and yet still being responded to. :supergrin

I've heard about the lack of contact with Young, too. Regarding the stereotypical Davis preferences, I think it's still valid because that's what he generally tends to follow on draft day.

This has been a weird offseason for Davis, though. He didn't even make it to the combine (until maybe last day, maybe two, I'm not sure) and he's usually a combine fixture. He's been pretty hands off this year, but then again with Shell as HC, maybe he doesn't feel like he has to be.

Or maybe his age is finally catching up to him. He's been looking pretty frail the last year or so.

Didnt the Jets trade up for a DT a few years ago? Robinson? (Has Bunkley's build) ring a bell anyone? Is he a bust?

Dewayne Robertson, and yes, although Johnathan Sullivan was an even bigger DT bust that year for the Saints. Jesus, if New Orleans wasn't absolutely retarded with their picks that year, they could really be a force now. In fact, it's worth noting that the Saints have done a pretty damn good job of drafting overall.

What makes it more amusing is that Arizona completely wasted the first rounders they got in return as well. So if you consider the two elements together, it was like the biggest draft bust of all-time. But for the record, trading up wasn't a bad idea, since they'd have been much better with a guy like Kevin Williams (who was supposed to go with the next pick, but that's the one Minnesota screwed up). All in all, 2003 was a pretty bizarre draft.

    AZ will waste picks, though.
Bryant Johnson was at least a round reach, and wasn't that the Calvin Pace draft, too?

Yeah, AZ really fucked that one up. What I hadn't noticed until I looked at it was that, aside from McGahee and Larry Johnson, there weren't really any good players taken in the first round after Pittsburgh took Polamalu at #16. The Cardinals could still have done better than Johnson and Pace (like with McGahee or Johnson), but the rest of that round was one big waste. I was initially trying to think who New Orleans might have drafted had they kept their picks, but everyone at those spots ended up sucking anyway. It was just a really bad draft.
