I think he may be interested in something like that, he doesn't seem to want to leave the game, but then there's that family he's been promising time to for probably a few years now. I'd expect him to take some time to do that first.

And yes, these statements appear to come from Ros and not Ricky.

Proehl doesn't likely have any actual want to coach, and if he did, I'd assume it would be as likely to be at Wake, close to home. And, of course, he's kinda pissed at the team, and that doesn't exactly scream "work 3x as hard, 3x as long for 1/5th of the pay".

interesting, Joiner was born 1947 and in 1986 caught 34 balls for 440 yards and 2 TD's

Monk was born in '57 and played only 3 games in '95, caught 6 balls for 114 yards. '94 though he caught 46 for 481...

Rice was born in '62 and caught 30 for Denver in '05, his last year before he couldn't make a roster the year after. Year before that though he caught 63 for 869 in Oakland. So I guess Rice was about 42 or 43

I think Proehl is done, he'll turn 40 soon. He might feel great and still want to play, and he's in excellent shape, but 25 balls last year was a lot for him IMO, and he only got that many because Colbert was hurt, Carter was young, and our TE's suck. That's all going to change this year. There's no more balls for Proehl.

You think assistant coaches make $150k?

    OLL.

When CArter's knee blows up during mincamp stretches, we'll call proehl.

    Bill's bitter!

Read this and tell me if you agree with me or not:

    Proehl going elsewhere

    By Darin Gantt The Herald
    (Published March 29‚ 2006)

CHARLOTTE -- Ricky Proehl's not finished with football, even though the Carolina Panthers are finished with him.
The agent for the veteran wide receiver said Tuesday night that Proehl intends to play in 2006, even though the Panthers have told him his services are no longer required.

"It seems clear at this point the club's decided to go in another direction, as effective as he's been and as much as he's done for the organization," agent Alan Herman said. "We'll be moving on. He feels great, and he's continued to take great care of himself.

"He's definitely looking to play somewhere else."

Herman said he's certain there will be a market for the 38-year-old wideout, who caught 25 passes for 441 yards and four touchdowns last year. However, since many around the league assumed he'd want to stay with his de facto hometown team -- he has an offseason home in Greensboro, N.C. -- there hasn't been much demand the last two days.

That should pick up as teams around the league get wind of Proehl's desire to keep playing. He'd love to play for the New York Giants, since they're the team he cheered for as a boy growing up in New Jersey. Herman said they talked to Giants officials about going there in 2002, before he signed on for one final year with St. Louis.

Herman said geography would be a factor in determining Proehl's next team, as would the position prospective teams are in. With 16 years in the league, Proehl's not looking for a reclamation project or too many cross-country flights, but still feels like he can contribute to a winner.

He did that often here, beginning with the game-winning touchdown against Jacksonville in his first game with the Panthers in 2003. He stayed productive throughout his time here, and his 17.6-yard per catch average last season was actually his career high.

He ranks 10th among active players in receptions (666) and 11th in receiving yards (8,848) and touchdowns (54). All those numbers come despite the fact he hasn't been a regular starter since 1998, and has at least 14 fewer starts than anyone ahead of him on any of those lists.

But with the recent addition of Keyshawn Johnson, the Panthers elected to groom Keary Colbert and Drew Carter rather than give Proehl another chance. In fact, Herman said Panthers general manager Marty Hurney notified them of the team's intentions last Thursday night, as he was taking Johnson out to dinner to discuss to final contractual details.
Herman said his client bears no ill will toward the team, at the same time mentioning how difficult the decision must have been for them.

"Marty's a pro, he gave us the head's-up that the Keyshawn thing was happening so we didn't have to read it in the papers," Herman said. "Marty's a class guy, and to be honest, I think he was emotionally affected by this decision as well."
Hurney, in Florida for league meetings, did not return a call seeking comment Tuesday.
