And b/c he can't play corner. CJ Wilson and Capt. Munnerlyn have beaten him out at CB.

Could be b/c of Godfrey, though.

It tends to mean more with us than it does with other teams. Usually, nobody comes from 3rd string in the preseason to do anything significant in the regular season. If Martin isn't doing anything right now, it's probably a bad sign for him. Remember, we handed Godfrey the safety job last year.

Or possibly because we were all wrong and Wesley can't play corner.

Don't forget they're not just replacing Godfrey right now, they're hopefully contemplating ditching Salley.

As for Martin's own performance, it means nothing for him longterm. Right now they're worried about right now, and that comes first. It's a nice luxury that they don't have to have him right now.

It's just that we don't seem to "wait" very long for guys. Either they make an extremely good first impression and get a chance, or they never get to play. If Martin is having trouble getting nickle time in preseason, that's definitely not a good sign considering what we have behind Gamble and Marshall.

Same thing for Irvin. We're absolutely awful at that position, but he's struggling for reps with undrafted guys.

I have no concerns about Brown, especially after he blew up Jake Long. Goodson looks like a steal, but he might end up being his own worst enemy down the road.

I wouldn't expect the transition from college safety to NFL corner to be easy.

Neither would I, but he's not facing much competition. And nickle isn't as big of an adjustment as playing outside.

I thought they were moving Marshall/Gamble inside on nickel sets.
