What was the amount of the contract?

I am not disputing what Proehl is better suited for ( I agree on most teams I would rather him be a #3), I am more of talking whats best for the team. If he can't do 30 or 40 snaps a game, then wtf?? We are talking about WR, which I know running on every play is envolved, but it's not like he is getting hit on every play like a RB, or that he is a linemen or insert any other contact position.

Is Proehl a better option (this year) as our #2 vs. Colbert?

probably could've been done a few weeks earlier, but would need to know what they determined to have seen in Gardner to have done it.

Physically, he wouldn't hold up at flanker. You are lining up right on the ball. Defenses would end up pressing the hell out of him. It's be damn hard for him to get a release consistantly, and at the same time hurt any running to that side.

Carter could use a little more weight on him. He looks like he's added some though. Physically, he's better suited than Colbert for a flanker in our scheme. Got size, athleticism, leaping ability, more speed. He's raw as hell, though.

In other words, if not Colbert, then Carter, no nobdoy. I do wish we'd at least moved Carter ahead of Gardner earlier, its awful late to be tinkering. Colbert's biggest problem has been his own confidence IMO. He's in a funk. We had a few games where we tried to turn that around, in Buffalo we called a lot of set plays for him. But he hasn't been able to come around and play with aggressiveness, which may be from shaky confidence.

I do wonder whether Colbert playing flanker in this offense is part of the issue. Not that it should, mind you. I do have to wonder, though, the way Williamson uses hus guys. Can't argue that much with the results, but after 2000, Muhammad was playing the flanker, because Hayes had only learned split end. Since then, of course, Smitty moved into split end, where I'd figure you'd want him in motion and off the line more.
Colbert, you'd figure, could hold up as a split end, and that posession type role he would've theoretically played if he didn't suck, would fit it.

Well, that I reason is why Colbert was more productive last year. He had some of the same problems, but the role and routes suited his abilities more IMO.

But Smitty is more explosive in that role, where you can move him about, or put him in the slot and RP split.

PFW said the Panthers also didn't like Gardner's effort. Maybe he got more excited about playing on MNF with Farve and running whatever route he felt like.
