    Heard yesterday on pregame radio that Jamal Broussard had been released and Rob Rutherford was moved up from the practice squad. Anybody else hear this? I did notice that Panthers.com has him listed on the 53 man roster. So we are carrying 4 QB's at the present. Any speculation on what the intent is? Who goes, Weinke or Peete?

    It's because practice squad players become free agents after the season is over and this ensures that he'll be in our camp next year instead of someone else's.

    Panthers wrap up QB Rutherford

    In a move made with an eye clearly on the future, the Panthers promoted rookie quarterback Rod Rutherford from the practice squad to the 53-man roster Sunday. Rutherford was de-activated for Sunday's game, but the move indicates the Panthers might have plans for him.

    By having him on the active roster at the end of the season, the Panthers will retain his exclusive rights.

    Had he finished the season on the practice squad, he could have become a free agent. Rutherford will get a chance next year to compete with Chris Weinke and Rodney Peete for the reserve jobs behind Delhomme.

    To make room for Rutherford on the roster, the Panthers release receiver/return man Jamall Broussard. -- PAT YASINSKAS

    Love to see him go to Europe for a little experince, doubt it though, Henning is funny about keeping his QB's close.

    speaking of Europe, we should see 5 or 6 guy's signed tomorrow for a european vacation.
