If my parents in Winston-Salem have Time Warner Cable (havn't verified this yet), could I simply bring my cable modem home over christmas and set it up there? As far as I can tell they control internet access based on the MAC address of the modem. Or do you think it is registered with a more local router/server/whatever? I need to work over the Holidays but need highspeed access for vpn and they are still on dial-up.

    this still has me going...

Are we talking about the same market area? Like, if I have my RR account in Charlotte, and I go to Greensboro, I'm in a different market, so I may not connect. I can see if I just go across town though. Or, does it just have to be in the same .carolina.rr.com vicinity?

Steve is out working on some RR stuff right now, if he calls me back I'll ask. If not I'll ask Christopher in the morning.

I live in Kannapolis and so do my parents, so when i had to move back home for a month while underneath my house dired out from the flood, i call TWC and ask the same question and they told me it might work, but more than likely it wouldn't.

I guess I should have posted a reply in this thread incase anyone else wondered.

No, if he took his modem from his account to his parents it wouldn't work because they are in two different divisions. But like many things there are ways to get around any problem. :)
