Mags, you seem to like Rivera. What makes you like him? I do not remember him doing anything great anywhere else he has been.

I do not remember much about his time in Chicago but didn't it fall apart on him?

he was also a member of the 85 bears and started out as linebackers coach with the eagles under johnson i would assume, so he has a bit of a pedigree. experienced with 4-3 and 3-4 defense, chargers run a 3-4 but bears ran a 4-3. seems like a good hc possibility.

Fine with him, it that's the choice. I'm thinking it's all about whoever we hire on the offensive side anyhow.

he ran the 3-4 because he was a replacement coach there, replacing Ted Cottrell. He's a 4-3 guy, and my guess is it'd be a Tampa 2 base with more pressure, definitely more pressure on 3rd down.

I'd definitely call him the favorite, but might not be the only guy to get a 2nd interview. This round is different, since JR hasn't met any of the candidates during interviews - they were on the road, where Rivera is meeting with Richardson now. Whether they bring Fewell in or not is hard to say, whether they interview a 5th is hard to say. I anticipated the 2nd interviews to be more like Tuesday.

If I had to guess, it depends on how well the interview goes. I'd bet on he and Fewell as finalists if it came down to 2 instead of 1, and I'd guess that Ryan or Manusky are offered DC shortly after.

I still stand behind Childress if he's interested. He probably doesn't come terribly cheap but he probably doesn't get any more head coaching deals. He's a good fit here, where he'd have some autonomy, where he is what they want, but he doesn't have to deal with the media or be a leader. Since he's a dick.

They would obviously look at Ramsdell if he's not under contract.

I am cool with Childress, but I know players on the Vikings have questioned him in areas. I know plenty of players questioned his leadership skills, but didn't players question him offensively as well?
