In what will be an off-season of change in Carolina, it appears the Panthers have found their first piece in rebuilding their franchise.

Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera is expected to be named the Panthers' head coach, according to FOX Sports' Jay Glazer.

Rivera, 49, has been in the running for several head coaching jobs over the last few years. Rivera was rewarded after leading the Chargers defence to the top ranking in the NFL this season.

The former NFL linebacker served as linebackers coach for the Philadelphia Eagles under the late Jim Johnson, as well defensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears, before joining the Chargers.

The Panthers can now turn their attention towards the 2011 NFL Draft, where they hold the first overall selection.

Welcome to Jerry Richardson's "Same Shit DIfferent Day".

We'll have a good defense, run a ball control offense and hope the other teams have a mediocre day against us. Whoo-hoo!!

Of what all DC names I've heard, I have the least problem with this. I think he's got potential.

My initial reaction is we'll have energy again.

This is a guy who has been waiting for a long time for his opportunity, replacing a guy who became complacent with his position.

Fox 2.0 (which I'm not saying this is exactly) would be okay if it's more like Fox 1.0 than Fox 1.8, 1.9.

We could have done worse. I kind of wanted an "offensive mind" but I'll take Rivera over some of the clowns we were interviewing.
