maybe Ricky knows he's done and everyone else doesn't... and SOMEONE signed Emmitt to play for them... yeah I know he has 1/2 a leg at best, but people speak about loyalty, well frankly neither the owners or the players are loyal. So I don't understand why there's some sorta double standard placed on Ricky Williams. Had it been convient for the Dolphins they'd cut him the day before the first game of the season. What's the difference in him quitting now?

It is illegal, players should have to follow the law too. If they can test for ephedra then it is no brainer to test for marijuana.

not if he didn't enjoy football. Some people work in accounting firms because that's what they know how to do. They go through their lives miserable in a job they don't like just because they fill they have to. Williams was lucky enough not to have to. If he doesn't WANT to play football he shouldn't.

Without getting into the should-be side of law, in the end there's a huge reason to test if nothing else:

    Len Bias.

What Williams did sucked from a team stanpoint, without question.

BUT - it's better than what Chuck Smith did by taking that bonus money when he knew he was done.

Whatever. Just entertain my white ass.

One has nothing to do with the other.

The signing bonuses is just that, a bonus to sign. Its largely the only guaranteed money these guys have. That's why the bonus money is so big. A lot of times its pretty much all they will see before they get released.

It has nothing to do with the length of contract. In fact, most guys know that the last few years of these backloaded deals are just phoney money, they'll never see it.

You want to make contracts guaranteed, you would have a bit of a point. Not much of one, cause I think that if you want to retire, you can retire. You just can't sign with another team if you decide to unretire.

But right now deals are not guaranteed. You can be cut at any time. So what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

    >>You guys honestly think this is about "finding himself" instead of about him failing his last piss test?

I don't care if its to shoot up heroin.

You must have a different idea of responsibility than I do. I have a responsiblity to do me and mine first and foremost. To do that I work. And I do the best job I can while I'm employed.

But if I don't have to do that job anymore to take care of me and mine, or find some other job, I can quit at any time. My job will never supercede me and mine, and what I want.

So I can't buy the responsiblity argument. I don't want to be saddled with it, so I'm not going to put it on Ricky, either.

    Piper - I agree.

But your job, not to dog you, your job and it's performance doesn;t carry the weight with your co-workers that Ricky's does.

So - it's just different. He is fucking over his team. He's not replaceable. Plus, he left them in a lurch when they could've done something to try to replace him.

He's not really obligated, but he fucked over those guys. He must not have many friends on the team.

If I recall, Bias was on a C binge.

Not to get into a debate over spleefs but isn't enforcing the law of the land the domain of the government?

I am basically saying that it's wise for the NFL to be concerned about substances that give players an unfair competitive advantage. Roids do that, to my knowledge pot doesn't.
