As long as he gives his the signing bonuses back for the remaining years of his contract, I don't care what he does. But he's still a selfish prick who'd rather smoke pot than keep a job most guys would kill to get in the first place. You can say he earned his money all you want, but until he finishes out his contract, he hasn't. The contract terms are based on the assumption that they will be completed, that's why there are signing bonuses, roster bonuses, etc. The money from each year affects every other year. Giving up 2 first rounders was based on the assumption that he'd play out his contract or renegotiate a better one near the end of it. A contract is a responsibility. This is about smoking dope, plain and simple. He can't control himself enough to keep a job where he's probably the biggest star in Miami since Marino retired, he's one of the premiere running backs in the NFL. You guys can have respect and admiration for an irresponsible, drug-abusing, quitter; but I don't have to. I might be wrong, but the "heart isn't in it" excuse sounds like a cop-out for his substance abuse problems to me. Lots of men probably have jobs where their "heart isn't in it", but they get up and go every day, because they have responsibilities.

like was said before... if he wasn't able to play up to par this or next or whatever year, the Dolphins would cut him because "Its a business." They have no loyalty to him so why should he have loyalty to them?

I don't understand the hostility. If he doesn't want to play then there is no reason why he should. Some of you sound like you think he owes it to everyone to play or that he should make a personal sacrifice to continue to entertain you.

Nope, like I said, I don't care what he does, as long as he gives back his signing bonus for the remaining years, and there should be heavy monetary penalties for not finishing a contract. This is not about him being loyal to the dolphins, this is about him honoring a legal contract. I'm sure his heart wasn't in it when he cashed his bonus check and went out to buy dope either, huh. I don't have any hostility toward him, I just think he's used the NFL, the fans, and especially the dolphins to get enough money to be a slacker for the rest of his life. But, he has to live with that, not me. Makes no difference to me, I just feel like he should have been a man about it and done the right thing for the team earlier. At least tell them before the draft. You guys honestly think this is about "finding himself" instead of about him failing his last piss test?

then you're saying that a team should also pay a player extra money when they cut him due to the salary cap... right?

it is more because of the timing. he left his team high and dry with really no shot at getting a decent RB. the ideal time would have been before the draft.

imagine if the panthers didn't have foster and davis announced he was retiring effective today...same thing

unless someone can prove the fins planned on cutting him before the season, then that is not a good arguement.

I for one am happy about the timing...had he done this before the draft, no way in hell would the lions have been able to draft kevin jones.

but I couldn't care less since it's not the Panthers...if it was the Panthers I suppose I would be upset but only in a selfish sort of way, he can do whatever he wants
