Williams has been one of my favorite NFL personalities since entering the league. He's an interesting person, the type of guy I wouldn't mind sitting down with just to BS and talk about life.
He's made a decision that he feels is best for him and his family. In reality, I would hope I could make the same decision under the same circumstances. In the end he has to only answer for his actions and how they have affected him, and I am sure this decision will not be trouble free in the long run either. There have been decisions I have made in my life that were not popular, especialy if you look at what te norm would do...but in the end, I never wavered and feel a sense of peace with these decisions. Maybe not exactly what Williams is doing here, but I can relate to an extent.
I don't find his decision to be selfish, on the contrary, I find it selfish that people berate him for making the decision. His heart obviously is elswhere, what would sticking around really do for him and his family...other than $$$.

There is alot more to life than money and acquiring stuff.

    Godspeed, Ricky! :applause:

Not sure I follow that. why am I selfish for berating him? I don't want him all to myself.
His team, however, did depend on him, and the Dolphins should feel betrayed. me, personally, i'm not affected by his decision, so there's no way I could be selfish. I had no obligation.

I think it's selfish to feel he should be there despite his heart not being in it, no matter what angle your coming from. Fans are fickle and they are going to lash out at Williams, and he has no obligation to them either.
If I were his teammate, sure I'd be upset...but I'd like to think I would be man enough to suck it up and realize he is but 1 of 53 guys with a job to do. If you want to quit your job tomorrow...there isn't going to be a huge buzz in the engineering industry and people trippin on you. That's all, it's a business...two weeks notice is expected, but not required.

Sad thing is, the Fins go in the cellar and Wanny is going to piss and moan about Williams and he's the scapegoat. You gotta make do with what you CAN put on the field.

he did the exact same thing barry sanders did....quit right before training camp starts and screw management because there are no quality backs available....had he made his decision a week ago, they could have had eddie george or antwone smith....now they'll probably take a look at james stewart if they can't make a trade. that is a big drop off.

what is even worse is the fins forked over 2 first round picks for him.

what barry did actuall motivated the lions...everyone said they were dead in the water without him which motivated them to play harder. they ended up making the playoffs but injuries had already caught up to them and they lost in the 1st round...we'll see if this will motivate the fins in the same way.

I am seeing a lot of people say that they applaud him for walking out, and others saying that he owed it to the team. Well it is his choice like they said and he decided to sign a contract. Now if I sign something saying I am going to fullfill whatever it is, that is responsiblity. You talk about how you would retire if you had the money. Put yourself in the owners shoes. Somebody signed a paper saying they would earn you money if they paid you something. Guess what he walks out leaving you in a bind. How would you feel now? Cant just see it from one side but take it from both. Now I know all
about how they make money on players and are the big bad guys but like I said see it from there eyes.

I'm sure if Ricky hung around an extra couple of years until he'd lost a step the Dolphins would never cut him right at the start of camp because - of course - they'd want to be loyal instead.

yeah, at least he told wanstedt. sanders just had his agent fax over a message and then took off for london.

he probably just wanted to be able to smoke pot which he can't do in the NFL.

    Which is fine.

He's turning down 3.5 million dollars. You've got to hate your job a lot to do that.

The only issue I have is the timing. But if you are done, you are done. He's played 6 years, ran hard and took a lot of pounding from what I saw on the field. He earned what's he's had, and now he's had enough.

Eddie George got run into the ground and got cut. He'll still be able to make a lot more money, but Ricky gets to enjoy it now. He's earned his pay, and doesn't care to get richer this way.

Would I be pissed if it was Davis. Yes. Particuarly with the timing. But that's because I'm a fan. Its still his right.
