as the CB, you're just supposed to slap 'em till the safety gets there.

    (anybody remember that cartoon?)

RAVENS WANT DEION TO POOP OR GET OFF POT

The Baltimore Sun reports that the Ravens aren't willing to wait until November to acquire the services of cornerback Deion Sanders, and that they want him to join the team, if at all, in time to suit up for the September 12 opener.

Such rumblings, in our view, could prompt Deion to back off.

As we see it, Sanders doesn't want to come back to football so he can play with the Ravens. He wants to come back to football so that he can acquire maximum attention in the hopes of re-igniting his failed television career.

To make that happen, he needs to land on a "hot" team at the right time. In today's NFL, it's impossible to determine whether that team will be the Ravens or anyone else before the first half of the season unfolds.

Instead, we think Sanders is merely using the Ravens now in an effort to get the word out generally that he's available to the right team at the right time for the right price.

And we also think the Ravens are placing deadlines on Deion because they're starting to sense that he might be playing them.

In the end, our prediction is that he won't be playing for them -- but that he will end up on the best team with the biggest need for his services (through injury or otherwise) after November 1.

    Makes sense -
It's amazing how he usually seemed to end up on just the right team to have a shot at a ring just about every year he played. If that is in fact what he is trying to do I guess you can't blame a guy for trying, but it definitely makes him that much more of a ME guy and makes me dislike the guy even more.

Didn't the Chargers acquire the rights to him from Washington back when he was pulling the BS with the Raiders?

    From FoxSports.com:

In the latest on Deion Sanders' rumored comeback, trainer Tom Shaw
joined Sporting News Radio on Friday on the Arnie Spanier Show.
Shaw is one of the top agility trainers around and has worked with many
current NFL stars, including Michael Vick and Tom Brady. He met Sanders
as a conditioning coach at Florida State and the two have been in contact
ever since. When Sanders started thinking about a return, Shaw was one
of the first guys he called.

So what's "Prime Time" planning to do?
"Oh, he's coming back," Shaw said. "Just by watching him, he's better
then a lot of guys that I've worked with already. Deion knows that he has to
work on his technique. But he has been working technique for a long
time - he has never really stopped." Other excerpts from the interview ...
Shaw on when Sanders will make a decision: "Deion is going to make that call after we time him on Wednesday. Then on Friday we are going to go through a whole game series and then he'll make that call and if he feels he's ready then he'll do it." Shaw on why Sanders waited until now:

"When Deion retired it was because of the coach that he didn't get
along with and then he was going to make a comeback with the Oakland Raiders with about eight games to go, then that same coach picked him up and put him on the physical unable to perform list. So he wasn't able to get
back in and that was the problem." Shaw on Sanders' problematic toe and other lingering injuries: "He's able to run and the toe hasn't been a problem, so hopefully it has healed. "He's going to have to run and do a lot of repetition. We are trying to get him to do the over thirty yards, twenty yards, ten yards, metabolic training that he's going to have to go through. The hamstring and the quads are what we are worried about." Shaw on Sanders' speed right now: "Deion was in a street race with Cory Fuller, Champ Bailey, and Ray Lewis in Puerto Rico at Deion Sanders camp and he smoked all of them. "He's close to being able to sprint and we are going to time him on Wednesday to see where he is. The last time he ran he was running forty-yard dashes and we ran six of those and his times ranged from
4.4-4.5. Shaw on Sanders' recent workout regime: "He's been doing two-a-days, doing everything to get this thing to a level that he feels able to help the team. Deion won't come back if he feels he can't help the team.

"He's in good shape, he's been working hard. He is trying to get back
to the same level that he was at and he is doing a good job."
