I'm going to post this here and in the coffee shop because I'm not sure where it belongs, or where I'll get the best advice.

I'm ready to invest in a real camera, digital SLR I guess unless somebody has better advice, so have at it.

I'm prepared to spend up to $2,000 for the camera, if I need to go more I probably will, if I can get off for less all the better.

I want the capablility of adding a super zoom lens at somepoint also.

    advice?

    Nikon DSLR

Just a fan of Nikon since the 70's....

    I watch out for
memory card type (SD is most popular)
Cheaper and available everywhere, big as 2GB last time I checked.

Lens Make sure a variety of lenses are available,
One Size does not fit all.

    Hype Recommendations and oversell.
If you are just snapping pictures of family and friends. You won't need a lot of features. But if you are doing professional grade portraits. Get the best/most features for the money.
    Stop Motion
Bulb setting (Shown as B on older SLR cameras)
Short Video clips would also be good... you never know when you will wish you had it.

ummm yes I was a photographer once
