Oh wow - you guys are wonderful. Thanks so much for your opinions and advice...I can't tell you how much I appreciate this!
Lovey, you're right - my computer is old. I still have the massive harddrive thingy that hums away while everyone I know is sitting pretty with something the size of a box of matches. I went to download your link but got "Sorry, this download link is expired." Is there any other (similar) way of finding out what I have? Thanks again for being so useful and taking the time out to work through solutions ;).

I do have connections to a sweet geeky guy who works his todd off for about $40.00 so I might give him a buzz and see if he can do it for me. Dave, you're right...if I take this old dear into a shop after they finish laughin', they'll push like bastards to get me paying thousands for a new system. I'm just not prepared to do it. Yes, I'm a cheap tart...:).

Thanks again ya'll for helping - I feel so edumicated :mushy:.

possibly... But its the only real option I can think of if she doesn't have her original documentation or if she doesn't know what and how much RAM it'll support.

If she runs Aida32, it'll tell her/us her motherboard model right down to the revision#. Then it's just a matter of looking it up on "teh intarweb".
