Initial reports said "up to" $21 million if he meets certain playing time marks, right? I think that makes more sense, although the $7.5 million guaranteed is much higher than I would have expected.

Lucas has $36.5mil/6 yrs. How does that compare with Mannings contract?

2 mil more a year, more "real" money in there. If Manning's contract is a shell contract that has a lot of guaranteed (the 7.5 mil) but the rest is less likely to be had, then it's probably half its stated value, but assuming every bit of it's base and bonus, then Manning got about 2/3rds of what Lucas did.

I honor RMJr for what he did for us.... but it was done in his first year and since he can't start for us any more I don't see him repeating it. We're getting compensation..... fuck it, fine by me. Good luck.

Manning, 25, agreed to a five-year contract worth a total of $21 million. Complicating matters for the Panthers is a first-year salary-cap figure between $6 million and $7 million, a high figure generated by what is believed to be a roster bonus of about $5 million. Carolina is believed to have about $3.5 million remaining in cap room after signing linebacker Na'il Diggs on Thursday, a good chunk of which must be committed to its rookie pool.

sorta. The money that was earmarked for his contract is freed up. He hadn't actually signed the contract yet, so I'm not sure if all the cap estimates had it included or not.

I recall our tender to him was close to 700K. Does that sound about right? That would be what we got back on our cap. I think they do count those amounts tendered to RFAs.
