We had run four times in a row, with the last one gaining just two yards. And as far as play-action is concerned, normally you do that to suck in the linebackers and/or safeties. In this case the linebackers and safeties began the play sucked in, so I'm not sure that would have accomplished anything. Beyond that, Jake absolutely sucks at the play-action fake, and it does give an extra half second for the blitz to get you if they end up bringing one (the brought one man from the weakside). And for the record, the backfield wasn't empty on that play. Hoover was still in the backfield, so we could have run a dive with him and presumably that's why the linebackers stayed in the box.
You almost never pass on 4th and 2, even with teams that are a lot better on their short passing game than we are. You either run it or you kick it. And as for Foster, Phillips knocked him out of the game on his pass reception six plays earlier.
Like I said, I think fans are out of their freaking minds when they suggest that the team has no heart. I have not seen a single play where they didn't try, just ones where they were tired or didn't execute. Moreover, even today I can't come up with what adjustments should have been made yesterday. Putting more receivers in the pattern would have meant exposing Jake to pressure, and the defense did a fine job for the most part. I probably wouldn't have run as much three deep shell coverage, especially since we kept giving up the underneath stuff, but that's the only obvious adjustment we didn't make that I can come up with. Really I think the problem was mostly on special teams. We put ourselves in a hole by allowing them great field position with poor coverage, and we screwed ourselves by doing things like fielding a punt on the one yard line.

Regardless, what he said was true. Sure, we dont have to go 3 wide every damn down, but we ran a poor offense yesterday. I said it then, Ill say it now. It was poor. And a player pretty much agrees with me, and I feel good about how I feel, and feel that Im right. Hell....I know Im right. The results are in, and we got our asses kicked.

Proehl doesn't get on the field unless we run 3 WR, so of course he wants to use that formation. We were right not to use it much yesterday, and I really hope we don't use it much against New Orleans. Their defensive ends always give us tons of problems, so I would much rather make sure that we give Wharton and Gross some help than to hope that we make more plays in the passing game than we give up in sacks and interceptions.

Tampa's last drive for the TD...we knew they we're going to run and still couldn't stop them...they got 6-7 yards a carry dragging players

    that's not game planning

That was the only drive of the game where they run the ball so effectively, and it was immediately following the interception. I think that had a lot more to do with our spirits being down than play-calling. I think people are just looking for a reason to get mad at old targets again.

Imma thinkin it's all of it. I'm targetting the entire team and staff. The gameplanning, adjustments (or lack thereof), lack of fire.

I am starting to think like you, Collin, that Jake is not all that, and even less with no fire.

And this "emotional letdown" shit because we were "emotionally drained after last week's emotional win" is bunk. And if it ain't bunk, and they in fact were, then we don't need to be in the playoffs, cause good teams emotionally kick ass every week at end of the season, especially in big games, and throughout the postseason. Or there's no reason to be there. It's playoffs now, boyz, cause we lose anymore, and you might as well stick a fork in us considering the teams that are in, the records and remaining schedules.

And if we do manage to get in as a WC, let's hope we don't have an emotional letdown in week 2 of the playoffs (assuming we win the first one) because our freaking emotions are so vulnerable to coming and going.

I think that would be, like, bipolar or something.

Gotta agree with this. You have got to bring it every week. As far as I am concerned the only game you can use this excuse, is after the superfreakinbowl.

I think you're under a grave misconception, because "good teams" most definitely do have fluctuations in energy, and they most certainly do give inconsistent performances during the season. Even the Colts this season have come out blazing in some games and pretty flat in others. The fact of the matter is that last week was incredibly draining, but evenso, we were still in the game at the end. Tampa just played better than we did, there's no other explanation necessary. People like to pretend that we coulda/shoulda/woulda, but give the Buccaneers some credit. They came out and played very well.

I seriously have to question how many of you even played sports if you don't understand this phenomenon. It doesn't have to be professional sports obviously (since I never played anything past high school), but if you played and never had days where you were just tired or where you just couldn't seem to reach that highest level, well then you were pretty unusual.
