They could just make it where you plan another quarter when an overtime game ends in a tie. Of course you could end the fifth quarter at a tie and then have to either play a sixth quarter or go to sudden death at that point.

I think you leave regular season games alone. Everyone is thinking the Saints vs. the Vikings but in reality is it more likely to be used in a Lions vs. Brown stinker that ended at a three all tie.

You have to consider the TV logistics of NFL football, though. Basically the NFL prefers a "sudden death" format because it ends the game as quickly as possible, so you don't have 1pm games running over 4pm games, and (more importantly) interrupting commercial time.

It's all about money, not fairness, but I really think it's fine like it is. The team that gets beat in OT should have a) stopped them on defense, and b) won the game in regulation. If you're clearly the better team, you should win.

I can't stand the college system. Football has 3 phases: Offense, Defense, and Special Teams. College decides one of those isn't important to overtime.

There have been 29 Post Season Over time games since the merger. In all but 7, both teams got a possession.

The best system in my mind would be to simply play an additional 8 minute quarter, THEN go to sudden death.

    New rules .......

Funny how the kicker comes though. It is most the times a kick. I say each team sends the head coach out to the 50 and let them fight for it. Last man standing....
