    Gailey Relieved Of Duties

The Kansas City Chiefs, who have an uncertain quarterback situation because of a knee injury to Matt Cassel, said Monday that Chan Gailey has been relieved of his duties as offensive coordinator.

The Chiefs would not say if Gailey's role has been reassigned or whether he will remain on the coaching staff, but they confirmed Gailey will no longer be running the offense for head coach Todd Haley.

The Chiefs said Haley would address Gailey's status with the team after Monday's practice. His firing comes less than two weeks before Kansas City's Sept. 13 regular season opener at Baltimore.

The decision came Monday, following a weekend when Cassel suffered a knee injury on the third play of the Chiefs' 14-10 preseason loss to the Seahawks in Arrowhead Stadium.

Gailey was the Chiefs' offensive coordinator last season under former coach Herm Edwards. Haley was the offensive coordinator for the Cardinals during their run to the Super Bowl last season before being hired to replace Edwards.

I'm guessing that has a lot to do with Gailey's preference for Croyle and Thigpen. It was kind of odd that Haley kept him in the first place.
