    Philly defensive tackle visits Panthers
S.C. native likely backup for starters

Philadelphia Eagles free agent defensive tackle Ian Scott visited the Carolina Panthers today, according to sources.

The Panthers need to add depth at the position after trading Kris Jenkins to the New York Jets last Friday. The Panthers also have hosted a visited from and are interested in signing former Atlanta Falcons tackle Rod Coleman.

Scott, 26, was a fourth round pick of the Chicago Bears in 2003.

Scott (6-3, 302 pounds) spent last season, his only year with the Eagles, on injured reserve. He appeared in 49 games for the Bears from 2003-06, totaling 96 tackles and two sacks.

Scott, a native of Greenville, S.C., likely would be a backup tackle for the Panthers behind starters Damione Lewis and Maake Kemoeatu. He's considered a player who is best used in a rotational system rather than starting.

might I suggest transferring your loyalty to the Miami Dolphins.

The Panthers have made it obvious that the "steady active" approach leans heavily toward guys who aren't household names.

They're talking to DE Tyler Brayton. They've made inquiries about DT Ian Scott, formerly of Chicago and Philadelphia. They've had conversations with S Marlon McCree, but no visit is set up. They're working the fringes of free agency, rather than going after the big names many expected.

Scott's good enough to be a run-based backup. Add Moorehead so we don't have to draft anyone that won't play anyway.

Wouldn't mind seeing someone in rounds 4-7 to at least let Moorehead think he has to fight for it.
