Forsberg reportedly takes part in practice with Sweden's MoDo

    ESPN.com news services

Peter Forsberg is apparently back on the ice.

According to reports, the veteran center joined his former Swedish league club, MoDo, on the ice for practice Monday.

"It's fun to be back on the ice," Forsberg was quoted as telling reporters in the Camden Courier-Post. "It feels good and it's absolutely going in the right direction. I'm positive and think I'm going to make it. But it is too early to say anything for sure, and I want to be a 100 percent before I make any decisions."

Forsberg, 34, has been sidelined with a foot and ankle injury since finishing last season with the Nashville Predators.

Reports suggest recent procedures might have finally solved Forsberg's problems, sending Forsberg-mania back into high gear. Last season, Nashville mortgaged a significant part of its future to acquire Forsberg from Philadelphia despite another injury-plagued season, and the Preds' playoff run lasted five games. Forsberg has not played competitive hockey since then.

He tried to play for Sweden in the Karjala Cup in November but had to pull out after the first practice session on ice. He said his foot still felt unstable in a skate, and was unsure whether he'd ever play again.

But Forsberg-mania heated up again last week, when Sweden coach Bengt-Ake Gustafsson said Tuesday that the former NHL MVP might try to play in the LG Hockey Games in Stockholm between Feb. 7-10.

But will Forsberg return to the NHL? Many teams, including the Flyers, Senators, Avalanche, Flyers, Red Wings, Stars and Canucks, have been mentioned as having interest. Last month, he told Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter he has been training off the ice for the past month and is still hoping for a return to the NHL, but is unsure what team he would play for. The deadline to sign with a team is Feb. 26.

"We haven't started any [NHL] talks yet," Forsberg told the Courier-Post. "When I feel I am 100-percent fit and ready, I will look at the options. I know the time is running away, but I still have a couple of weeks to be absolutely sure about my status."

No. We don't have the money and he won't come to a shitty hockey town.

Signed with Colorado $1 mil for the rest of the year. That should turn out to be about $100,000 per game.
