I'll vilify him when he gives half-@ss efforts. He could be the best DE to ever play the game, but he's either too stupid or lazy to give a sh1t!

    --Probably both...

He's won games for us in the past. So has Jake. And Moose and Smitty.

Hurrney should and will take some heat for leaving us with Peppers and a bunch of street guys up front. But Pep has to play his position well for this to work at all, and he isn't right now. The criticism is fair when the big runs came right at Peppers tonight.

Where I fault Hurney is making a player stay where he CLEARLY doesn't want to be and the money that we are paying him could have gone to upgrading the DT spot. The position was weak prior to camp and with all the injuries we'd still have enough cap room to sign guys that haven't been cut off training camp rosters more than once in recent years.

No, hind sight isn't 20/20, my ass was preaching about the interoir D-line months before Kemo tore his achilles.

He is not a difference maker now, doesn't matter what he did in the past. You would all be talking shit about him being a waste of money if he played for another team.

    He simply isn't worth it.

You must've never seen Reggie White play. Or Bruce Smith. On Peps best days, he still wasn't nearly as good as their best days.

Hurney needs to seriously start entertaining trade talks for just about anyone but Williams and Beason.

58 should be on that list. No one's going to trade for a lot of our players, every year some team is rumored to be in 'fire sale mode' and nothing comes of it. In season trades are rare in the NFL.

    Anyone?

I think we can safely say that was a stupid move on the Raiders' part. That's essentially equating that trade to the Chris Harris trade. Or the Jason Baker trade really. And certainly, that's not a equitable analogy, since both of those trades were good value for us.

I don't know what to think. After this game, I'd as rather we franchise and trade again. We can't legitimately let him walk. But this time, we tell him to keep quiet, let him know he's going to be in the process of talking with teams, but to shut his fucking mouth and not let it be so difficult this time. You trade away for a low 1 and go get a couple guys who fit whatever we'll be doing next year. Of course, even then we're going to be handicapped by waiting for the trade to have cap.

I don't know there's a magical solution where he plays up to what he's making and then we build a defense around him next year. He's made slightly more impact than a guy we traded to get from the Raiders' 3rd string.

And yes, I think regardless of what we're running, I'd want the defense to include Davis next year. He wouldn't fit a two gap 3-4 that well but he's clearly in his own right now. Anything else and he'll still be a killer.

I think there's a middle ground here. There's no doubt that what he did out there this week actually hurt us.

Personally I think we still had some resources to make some moves, so you can't totally shit Peppers for that. He didn't make us draft a corner over a DT, or make that DT a guy who isn't ready to stop the run yet.

I know you're being tongue-in-cheek, but Singletary wouldn't take his underachieving ass.
