Why is it that in a league where “the best pass rusher is always on the right” (blindside of the QB) do the Panthers line Peppers up on the left? Some hypotheses:
    1) Peppers didn’t want to play on the right and he and the coach felt the left was his “natural” position.
    2) We put our greater threat in the QB’s view for intimidation purposes (let him see Peppers coming and get nervous)
    3) Michael Vick and Chris Simms (both lefties) are in our division
    4) Rucker is the better pass rusher
    5) The “best pass rusher is always on the right” theory is bullshit
    6) Other…

The guy on the left plays strong side and has to hold up against the run better than the guy on the weak side. Peppers is bigger than Rucker.

You sure Peppers is bigger? Also, while that makes sense why is it that Jenkins plays on the right side and Buckner plays on the left. Isn't Jenks biggger than Buck?

you generally put the heavier, stronger guy on the left because he's got more theoretical run responsibility, more potential to be doubleteamed (TE), so on. In addition, Rucker had just had a breakout year and Peppers was gaining weight, so it made natural sense.

When Pep inevitably struggles, it's brought up that he should go to the R and the more technically sound (and nearly 280) Rucker should play the left. I'm sure that would work as well.

I think it is because most ol's best player is the LT, so Fox believed that he can maybe get an advantage by putting Peppers against someone other than their best ol. i.e. putting Pep against their right OT.

Fox put Strahan on the other side in NY feeling that he'd put his best pass rusher against the other team's 2nd best tackle. He continued with that theory here with Peppers.

I am not sure it matters with DTs. They are generally not affected by weak side or strong side changes.

I would like to see us move Peppers around a bit and see if we can find a matchup he can dominate. Against us for example I would move him over to play against Wharton rather than against Gross.

Hasn't Ruck dropped to the 260 range?

But the left DE usually draws the double team. Doesn't the equalize the weaker RT theory?
