What's the minimum speed of a PII processor? friend of mine is giving me a PII laptop, but she doesn't know the Mhz. I'm guessing around 300, but I'm jsut guessing... anyone got any for real numbers?

Mark you'll find that the biggest limiting factor with that laptop will be ram and hard disk space. Usually laptops from that period only accomodate 128k ram at best and usually have onle 32 or 64 meg loaded, the hard drives are usually 1to3 gigs. The pII has internal cache and is faster then most celeron chips, but for most laptop tasks you need to manage the amount of I/O that you use in order to gain speed with current software, and the lack of ram and the small slow hard drive will drive will make the machine seem slower than it really is.

the hard drive is 4GB and it has one 64MB chip in with an available slot... I'm gonna try to put a 128 chip in, we'll see if it'll work.

I know this will be never be anythign close to a fast machine, but hey, it's free. I'm just planning on using it to be able to surf from the couch.

and went as high as 667 (I think it was only 666 but they made it 667 for obvious reasons)

    There was....

Pentiums, Pentium Pros and Pentium II's

    pentiums ended at 233

pentium Pro's started at 166 and ended at 333

PII's started at 233 (or 266) and ended at 450

    it's something along the lines
