The Patriots of the Intermediate division of the Metro Youth League of Cedar Rapids, Iowa have unofficially annuonced that Jason McShane (AKA McFly41) will be taking over as head coach for the 2006 season.

Due to league by-laws, a first year head coach can not coach at the Senior Division level (7th grade) without a special waiver from the league. If a waiver is granted, McShane could assume the reins of one of two middle school teams if those positions are not retained or otherwise filled.

McShane said, "It matters not which division I am coaching in or even if I am a head coach at this point. I simply want to get involved with the program."

be sure to wear a hooded sweatshirt and have a terrible haircut. As a Patriot, it is required.

The senior division team I have an outside chance of coaching gets alot of that...except it's the racism card being played. THAT is one aspect of it I do not look forward too, I think I can deal with your scenario just fine...but I detest being called a racist.

The rules in this league are that qtr's 1-3 everyone gets equal playing time and the 4th qtr is coaches call. Also a kid must practice a certain percent of the weeks scheduled practice time in order to be elidgible for play...the league really has some pretty strict participation rules already in place.
Plus, I don't care if a kid is the best player or not, if he's pitching attitude to coaches or being a dick to his teammates I'll bench him come the 4th qtr.
I am not in this to build a W-L record, I am in it to teach this kids a little something about self-respect so that they may develop into respectable young men/women.
    Winning is secondary...FOR NOW!

I actually ended up getting the Steelers, which I like better than being the Pats!
Now the challenge is to find a couple assistants that aren't Daddy coaches. What sucks is I will miss most of the first week of practice cuz I'll be out of town for work, gotta have someone I can trust there to manage things. That and I need to sit down with the HS coach for that district and get his basic offense and defensive plays.

I am SO looking forward to this!
