“Peterson is the best player in this draft, period,’’ said Tony Softli, who worked as a high-ranking personnel official for the Carolina Panthers and the St. Louis Rams. “There’s nobody who’s even close.’’

This coming from Softli who ruined some drafts for us.

It's hard not to like him, he's more physically talented than most corners that have come out - and more than most of the elite corners.

But right now he's still not that good a corner, and you have to hope that changes, of course, to buy in. Since he's such a good returner and his primary skill otherwise is athleticism, I hesitate to say he's like Hester, because there are differences, but there's that feel that you might have to fit him in. I don't think we require anyone with his physical gifts, just an athletic guy with instincts.

It seems most logical to me to take a DT. There are a couple of guys rated near the top who play DT and it is a big need area for us. We have more at corner than we do at DT.

Peterson is definitely the most talented player in the draft, but teams always forget that talent doesn't automatically equal production.

Correct me if you need to because I am not that familiar with the defense. (JJ 4-3). Do we need that much of a player/investment at Cornerback? Would it not be better to draft a CB in the third considering the zone scheme we will run? Still fuzzy on the personnel needs.

yeah, it's always zone. RR's corners and safeties aren't specifically this or that, there's no sacrificing height or maximizing size. They're almost interchangeable from nickel to starter to safety to safety. They all need to cover a zone, and only that, have instinct, tackle, and be able to blitz.

Patrick Peterson/DB/LSU meeting privately tonight with Carolina Panthers brass before pro-day workout. Peterson still in 219lbs area.

I wouldn't be mad if we drafted him

I mean you want athletes on your team and he is certainly an amazing athlete but he's not the best corner. I suppose you hope he develops into something special with his athletic ability but that's the same argument a lot of people make against drafting Cam Newton so why would you do the same thing at CB? He's a nice return man but whatever. Still not deserving of #1

Me either. He'll make you pull your hair out by jumping routes, but at least it will be exciting when he gives up two touchdowns and returns an interception for another.
