    TE's catch a lot of passes because our defense is geared around taking away the deep ball. I don't see an extra DB solving that problem. Most teams don't use dime that often because most offenses don't play 4WR that often. Very few have 3WR as their base offense. Prevent situations are about the only time a 6th DB is involved.

    as to whether or not it's common, I'm not saying it's used every game. Just that it's not unheard of. We used it a fair bit last year without Davis and probably use it against some of the bigger passing teams this year, too. You would typically see it when there's almost no run threat regardless of the 4th WR and in the case chip's asking about, there's no 4th WR anyway since the dime is out on a slot guy.

    yes. Though part of my point was that it was a common dime alignment against 3 WR, and that the choice to put an extra DB isn't always tied to the 4th WR.
