Even with injuries this offense is broken. Funchess and Benjamin don't seem to get thrown to maybe getting 5 looks each at best. For whatever reason Olsen and Ginn get all the looks. The faux option has played itself out and imo risk Cam to injury. Please Gettleman address the offensive tackle position even if it's a splash in free agency. Remmers sucks balls, and otah is brain dead. Decide between short and star and get it done sooner than later.

Funchess isn't on the field enough (he is more athletic than 13). 13 is really a tight end who can't block and is only good (loosely used descriptive) at catching shitty off target high passes like those typically cam-esque. He's fucking easy to cover. His size is his only advantage and that is offset by shitty routes and dumb brain farts.

Brown gets thrown to more, why I don't know, unless because of match ups he gets open more. But he's about as physical and 19; neither of whom who don't do shit unless they are wide open and streaking across or down field and there's no chance of getting hit a all in the process most times of making a catch.

None of the WRs, and even olsen, get open consistently or even much at all. And when they do, many times after cam finally makes a decision, the window closes by the time the pass gets there.

If they can't run effectively and throw downfield consistently, they get last night's results. There's just no middle ground; you know, the most effective area most all good teams exploit consistently.

The O has been stagnant and everyone who watches one game of tape surely knows every play once it begins, if not before. It's why a 30 pt average scoring O last year is lucky to get 20 now. Add to the fact the D hasn't scored much at all this year (unlike last), the kicker has caught the suck-age and the STs are worthless; thus the record result is abysmal.

They need new coordinators all around to do something different. Add new players, and maybe a new team, LOL, and maybe it won't be so disapointing.

You'd think Rivera will be told to make changes

I think rivera realized within himself that benching cam was dumb and demonstrating it in his body language in the post game. He seemed pissed about everything, as he should as well as himself.

Very well said. I think this accurately conveys the collective sentiment of Panther fans everywhere. I speak for myself and say it does for me.

I don't watch the game with a critical eye like some of you guys do, but here is my humble assessment of the Panthers right now:

Barring the Panthers winning out, I expect Shula to be gone next year.

Gettleman no longer deserves my benefit of the doubt:
    • The O-line wasn't good last year, despite a lot of people saying so. Newton expanded so many plays and brought a reasonable amount of doubt to the opposing defense with his running ability. Starting at the SB last year, the O-line was exposed for who they are. He didn't even try to upgrade the line. I pull for Remmers, but he's really a backup player. I was never impressed with Oher, last year or this year. I suspect that Byron Bell was so absolutely shitty that he made Oher look like an all-star. That polish wore off mid-way last year.
    • I can understand the 'who's dick is bigger' game he played with Josh Norman, but if you're going to cut someone of that caliber, bring in an upgrade, or an equal at the least. If the options weren't there, swallow your pride for one fucking year. He wasted three draft picks to replace one player, and none of them look worth a shit to me. Maybe Bradbury has a future, but he's years away. Worley is a special teams player and Sanchez, well, he has no business being on an NFL team.
    • By drafting Benjamin, he got someone, purposely I suspect, who can compensate with height Newton's penchant for overthrown balls. All he's shown me so far is that he's lazy, and good for at least one dumb penalty a game. What's more, he's Newton's security blanket. Newton targets him to the extent that it has become a detriment to the team.
    • He's had a couple of years to find a competent replacement to Stewart. I think rb is probably one of the easiest skill positions to find a 'diamond in the rough', yet for some inexplicable reason he's stuck with Artis-Payne, who isn't even active the majority of the time.
    • I love TD, but don't see him playing more than a year more. Thompson may have potential, but he hasn't seemed to done much this year. Klein is an ok backup. No 'plan b' there that I can see.
Newton: I pull for the guy, I really do. Sadly, he's not smart enough to play the position, imo. He's a talent physically, but that gets you as far as last year. Once the body slows down a second you have to be able to use your mind. He doesn't seem to have that in him. I think some of the success of last year has gone to his head. His mechanics have always been shit, and the fact that he either hasn't tried to correct his flaws or doesn't have the mental capacity to correct them speaks volumes about him. And ffs, take that fucking Street Fighter bandana off your head, shave your asinine yellow and black goatee, and dress like someone who has common sense at the pressers. You are supposed to be the leader of this team.

Rivera: I don't care for his stoic sideline presence, but if we win, I could care less. What's gotten under my skin with Ron this year is the team's lack of discipline, resulting in a fuckfest of stupid penalties every single game, and also the team's sudden lack of toughness and tackling fundamentals. If it weren't for Kuechly and TD this team would be even shittier than they already are.

    Tre Boston: fuck me.

Tolbert: you're not cute anymore. You're just a fat marginal player now.

That's about it. I'm curious to see if the team quits on Rivera this year. I checked out emotionally after Seattle scored on their first drive of the third quarter.

The silver lining to Gettleman is that we have plenty of cap space to fill the holes on the roster. If we get the competent Gettleman of '13 and '15, there's a chance the team can have a quick rebound next year. If we get the insane, irrational Gettleman of '14 and '16, then we're likely on the fast track to becoming the Browns of the south. It's really up in the air. He's the most wildly unpredictable GM in the NFL. Nothing would shock me at all in the offseason.

Replacing Shula would be fine with me, but the offense hasn't really been the problem this year, honestly. The Panthers have scored the 14th most points in the league. Benjamin has actually been better this year than he was in his vastly overrated rookie season, despite the ridiculous amount of penalties, and Ginn is also serviceable in his role. The interior of the offensive line is fine when healthy, but you certainly have to re-evaluate the tackle position. The biggest thing we have to address is rebuilding the secondary. I'm sure some of you saw the stat last night of the Panthers leading the league in average length of touchdown allowed. That's an absolutely atrocious category to be leading. I think Bradberry and Leonard Johnson will suffice as depth, and I'm fine with Coleman retaining one of the starting safety positions, but pretty much every other DB on the roster isn't an NFL caliber player. Boston might be, but barely. He's certainly not starting caliber. That's the most pressing need of this team. You can't compete when the opponent's average touchdown is nearly a quarter of a football field. Hopefully there's some contrition and humility on the part of the GM, and he goes out and shrewdly acquires some DB help. If he decides to stand pat with Bradberry and Worley as the starters, this team has no chance going forward.

I think Rivera is already thinking about next year, which is fine with me. A head coach should be a pragmatist.

What is most frustrating is that it's actually Cam's best outfit this year by far. That was a very sharp look. Such a stupid, petty thing for Rivera to do. I think Ron realizes it was a mistake so hopefully he pulls the stick out of his ass from now on.
