He wasn't that impressive last year. I could say that in the past, but guys like Donte Wesley were as good, and that's not saying much.

An interesting thing. Yesterday I looked at our roster and saw that Dan Curley had the #87. Now, Gardner has been added and he has the #87 and Curley has been given the #80.

    Interesting.

Yep, forgot all about Emanuel. He'll probably do well on ST. In fact, that may be the main reason behind his being drafted.

just my humble opinion, but i think you are way wrong and wesley was nowhere near in the same class as hankton on ST

Hankton and Wesley were both good. Hankton showed up a lot more on KR, as usual IMO; Wesley does somewhat well at both. Ross, specifically, seems the best PR cover guy as a gunner, but it's hard to say whether he does better than a guy like Smart there specifically.

Emmanuel is an intriguing ST prospect - tall, big, fearless. Granted, he's also indecisive against the pass, but the only thing really hurting him in base defense is speed (4.65). Seward will probably help out some, too - which would account for a lack of having Allen here.

I think that Hankton might stick around anyway, he or Ross taking over for him, as the team will want a face to lead the ST units, now that O's gone.

Four months ago, I was making the case that Hankton should stay. Now, after the draft & the Gardner signing, I see him being much more expendable. Marlon McCree can also give a lift on ST.

I'd keep Wesley over Hankton, certainly. Then I think it's between McCree, Emmanuel, Ross, and Hankton.

I doubt Smart goes, but I'd cut him before Robertson.

My guess is that was going to be his salary, not his signing bonus. He won't see any of it, and we don't get charged for it against the cap.

It still counts against the cap when making the actual decisions over talent - in the offseason. You made this argument in 2004, when we had tons of $650k and up salaries that shouldn't have made the team (some of which went to IR and counted anyway), and the end result is we didn't have enough money to sign anyone substantial.

We're far too liberal with our use of these contracts.

From this morning. My view was that the Skins may have been generous by calling him 50/50. He seemed to drop 50% in the warmup. In fairness, he has not been in any practices or meeting this year. Colbert also seemed to drop quite a few.
