Hard to say but could he beat out Colin Branch for the starting FS? That is a good question.

Howard is, but I don't know if he's better than RMJ. Can't remember many missed tackles, and I remember a couple of "jacked ups" he got. You may mean he's a better tackler than Collin Branch, or when Danny has a headache.

Our corners were singled out from 04 as not tackling well, and that was something we wanted to address, but then we replaced Manning. He was the one I felt was tackling well. He'd miss a couple, but not a ton, and when he'd hit, he could hit a back head on. granted, it was PFW whispers, and logic suggests that it was because Manning was having trouble covering in man technique zone, but it seemed like RMJr got a lot of crap for not tackling when he was tackling very well.

It should be interesting to see if Manning, already a little miffed at being replaced a year ago and now not being 1st round tendered (and thank God we didn't), forces his agent to find any deal and see if we'll match. There aren't many corners left, RFA still has almost a month, and if he does it, we're prepared.

RMJr really sucked tackling his first year, but he's worked himself up to okay-pretty good. Props to him.

Howard is a good fit, but I'm a little worried we're gonna hear RMJr's signed somewhere else pretty soon.

edit: didn't see your post before replying, Mags, but the timing of this definitely seems foreboding.

Howard never impressed me in coverage, but he is solid in run defense...good tackler. Back when he was here, I always said we had too many nickle backs, but now we may need one.
