On that theme, I think Luck is who we thought he was.

Lomas Brown intentionally missing a block so Scott Mitchell would get hurt is one great example of what happens when a team gets fed up with the franchise's commitment to winning, or lack thereof in the case of the Lions. They had enough talent everywhere except the QB spot to challenge for a super bowl, and when their trade for Warren Moon fell through, so did their title aspirations, according to Lomas Brown at least.

The Panthers are at the other end of the spectrum than those Lions teams. They have done the hard part - obtaining both their offensive and defense quarterbacks - but there is a scarcity of talented depth around them, and if it doesnt get fixed quick, our QB might decide to leave after the 2015 season.

So until Cam either earns a long term extension and signs it with the Panthers, or he proves incapable of being a franchise QB like we currently think he is, I'm gonna bitch.

This franchise cannot afford to let the most talented QB in the team's history leave for greener pastures. If that happens, it will be because we lost more than we won. Firing the GM that drafted him a year and half into his career is not a step towards stability.

Cam isnt your ordinary player w/ an ordinary background whose dream of making it to the NFL just came true by sheer luck and perserverance. Cam's dad played in the NFL, and he obviously has a big influence on Cam. Throw in Warren Moon, and you have one former pro plus a hall of fame QB as two of Cam's most influential confidantes. His advisers are experts in the NFL and its inner workings. They are going to help him make a more rationally based decision about his future in the league than he otherwise would, for better or for worse. Given that Moon himself played on many teams that were ill-equipped for a title run, there might be more than one person in Cam's ear telling him it would better to test the FA market than to stay in Charlotte.

I also don't expect Cam to feel overly obligated to the franchise that stuck out its neck in making him #1 pick, though some players in his position might feel that way. You can tell this kid desperately wants to win, and I'll bet that that desire trumps any residual sense of loyalty he might have for the team, especially after his big bro Smitty retires. Smitty tried to leave once before himself because of his dissatisfaction with the state of the team; dont think Cam hasnt noticed. We cannot afford to return to similar times of instability. Going forward, the new GM has to make every personnel decision count, be it acquisition or otherwise.

Well said. The team needs to work hard to put players around him. I'm still not convinced Cam is a championship QB, but we should be trying to put good players around him regardless.
