    Panthers release full 2005 schedule

Highlight: Monday-night rematch with Green Bay

    From Panthers.com

A rematch versus the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football, a date with the defending Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots, and a season-opening contest against NFC South rivals New Orleans Saints, all home games, highlight a demanding 2005 Carolina Panthers schedule announced Wednesday by the National Football League.

The Panthers host the Patriots in Week Two and the Packers before a national television audience in Week Four after opening the year at Bank of America Stadium against the Saints on September 11. Five of Carolina's eight home games are against teams that made the playoffs last year with Atlanta, Minnesota and the New York Jets advancing to the postseason as well as Green Bay and New England. The Panthers other home contests are an NFC South clash against Tampa Bay and a match-up on Christmas Eve versus Dallas.

As was the case in 2004, the majority of Carolina's NFC South games come late in the season with four divisional contests in the last five weeks of the campaign.

"With the teams we are playing, it was going to be a demanding schedule regardless of the order," said head coach John Fox. "From the time we learned our opponents, we knew this would be a challenging schedule. Getting off to a good start is always important, and we will be facing some very good competition. It should be exciting for everyone involved."

The Panthers play on the road for the first time in Week Three at Miami and make their first-ever trip to Detroit in Week Six. Other away games are at Arizona, Tampa Bay, Chicago, Buffalo, and New Orleans as well as season-ending contest at Atlanta on January 1. The Panthers have their bye in Week Seven.

Carolina began the 2004 season with a Monday Night Football home game against the Packers and also hosted Green Bay on Monday night during the 2000 campaign. Despite playing in different divisions, this year marks the eighth regular season meeting between the Panthers and Packers in addition to a postseason encounter during the 1996 season.
