I looked at it again after Chris posted that, and it wasn't. I wasn't watching that closely as I was pacing and flicking back to the marathon baseball game. I commented to my wife how it didn't look as clear as the baseball game.

It's much more apparent on the full screen shots, and i remember thnking it didn;t look great and wondered if it was my set.

I prefer the 16:9 SD over the regular aspect.

Question - why is it that Broadcast TV shows - Lost, Rome, shit like that, don;t look as good as live spots in HD? Are those shows in a lower res HD? or SD 16:9?

That HD must be something special such that you can't actually tell if you watching it or not.

I know it sounded crappy on 99.3.

Is some 14 year-old kid broadcasting that signal out of his parents' basement in Ft. Mill?

I could tell a dramatic difference. The Panthers game and the Tampa game were much clearer than the Atlanta game.

I was quite happy believing it was HD until the alpha-geek Chris pointed out that it was not. :twocents:

The Atlanta game was in HD here (charlotte, time warner).

CHris - do you know the answer about why live sports looks better than broadcast shows?

From what I've heard HD movies are transferred from 35mm to high definition; where as HD sports have HD Cameras.

I don't know if that makes sense or not. Alot of the old movies that are on HD channels are upconverted too, so it's not the best quality as a new movie or something like Rome on HBO.

The same goes for a DVD- When you watch one on an HDTV, the resolution can only be 480i. There are some new technologies coming out soon: HDDVDs and Blu-ray.

Each is backed by two different groups of manufacturers and endorsed by different groups of movie studios and content providers. The Blu-ray format is supported by Sony, Philips, JVC, Panasonic, Samsung, Pioneer, Hitachi and HP, whereas HD DVD is backed by Toshiba, and Sanyo.

I watched the Detroit game on Time Warner N. Myrtle Beach. It was in 1080? High Definition. I checked this time.
