    They never gave Wharton huge dollars and all the waffling between trying him at left tackle and guard vs just flipping Gross over to LT... Fox stubbornness was a mixed bag.

    EDIT and the Wahle signing was mixed up in that too.

    I remember Mathis being one of the worst players on the roster for multiple seasons. He was the guy who hung around because Hurney didn't want to take another L on a mid-rounder.

    Wharton's second contract was definitely an overpay. His 2013 one-off was a great season but he was never a player Hurney should have committed to.

    Maybe, but if he can't win a starting job at some point this year, you have to flush that pick down the shitter. Losing to Pat Elflein would be the guard equivalent to losing to Rodney Peete.
