If you can get the Steelers website to start doing it the panthers site won't be far behind.

It seems the new guy over there came from the Broncos site (or at least at one time he wrote for the Broncos) and NFL.com:

I reckon you can't please everyone, or, as I like to say, "If you try to be all things to all people, you'll end up being nothing to everyone."

Several years ago, a friend of mine from college e-mailed out of the blue when I worked on NFL.com, where I wrote as often as I could, while spending an equal amount of time editing stories and cropping photos for the league's official site. He said he was happy that I'd managed to land a gig tied to the NFL, but that he was displeased that my "voice" had vanished. "If your name wasn't on the story," he wrote, "I'd never have known you wrote it. What happened? It seems like you've gone bland."

At that point, in the back of my mind I decided, "Heck with this. I'm going to write my way."

Shortly thereafter, I got what I wanted ... a regular NFL beat-writing gig, on the Denver Broncos Web site. This will be my seventh consecutive season writing on an NFL team site, and in an era where the number of writers on NFL beats drops annually as newspapers trim their coverage for financial reasons, this is a blessing indeed.

If my style is not your cup of tea, I apologize. However, I can't pretend to be someone and something I'm not. If I do that, I'll be lying to you and everyone else who comes to the site, which is unacceptable. Obviously, some people are going to be happy with one style, and some with another. All I can do is try to tell as many compelling stories from this building and beyond as possible, in the way I know how ... the way that will allow me to do the best possible job bringing you closer to the team you love. Ultimately, that is what this job is about -- to use this site to bring the Panthers closer to you, the fans.
