Yeah - $18 million over cap, shitty coach retained, and then JR.

Shit you would think they would be fighting over it. It damn near took an act of congress to get Hurneys dumbass fired. Any halfway competent GM should be able to hang on to this job by making the playoffs once every 7-8 years... And hell you won't get fired for making fucked up trades on draft day, dumbass FAA signings, retarded contracts for players on a 2-14 team, etc....

Hell JR could go through any Bojangles drive thru and hire the guy at the window and it would be comparable to what we had.

JR keeping Beane through next year? Wouldn't it make sense at this point since Rivera really only has one more year to prove he's the man?

Some of you have already said this, I know. But it could be the right decision considering the circumstances, even if Beane is not the long term answer. Next year is wait-and-see anyway, isn't it?

I'd still take the competent decision maker now instead of one year of lost drafting/FA/contract work.

No, absolutely not. Beane isn't remotely qualified and the team needs to start taking steps as soon as possible to correct Hurney's many mistakes.

Accorsi mght run our draft if Beans is retained. Yo.

Edit: Hurney's mistakes, releasing players isn't rocket science.

yeah. Any work needed for 2013 would need to be done regardless of Rivera's inclusion.

It's not an unpopular job. The Jets have been turned down by at least 3 teams right now. We haven't, far as I know, and there are 5-6 interviews coming up. No one's been hired as far as I know on any staff, so nothing's really been missed. I'm not that optimistic about a couple of the names being suggested, but they're not guys I'd consider any more likely to get the job than Beane. Which, if JR likes the guy so much, stipulate him as an assistant or get him in legitimate scouting for a year or two. There's no upside to hiring him as GM.
