Nobody ever said you couldn't have an opinion about the guy, but it seems like he's the only one you ever have an opinion of.

I guess I'm just going to ignore what you have to say in this football forum, because obviously it isn't worth much.

I've said two negative things about the guy. I've said plenty of negative things about other players.

    Wrong. Read it again.

It's a total of nine players, some of whom were on the Super Bowl team. There's no indication at this point how many of that nine were on the 2003 team.

Honestly, what others have said is true. At this point, none of the players are actually being accused of any wrongdoing. They're being questioned because the doctor is under investigation. Whether it turns out that any of the players are guilty of anything or not remains to be seen, but at this point they are potential witnesses, not suspects.

Thank you Mr Scot, I was beginning to think some sort of inter-dimensional loop was holding me in an alternate world of obsessed reality TV junkies and litigation crazed automatons who are ready, willing and able to sell out their own mother for some random entertainment value.

Oh wait, that is our reality. Thanks anyway.....

well, the one thing about the dea is that they will not bring charges unless they are 100% sure about some sort of conviction. they figure they'll catch you later if they are only 90% sure. how do i know this? well everybody's got a past and i was in the 90% club who walked and straightened up.

well, the guy has the intelligence of a house pet and no common sense whatsoever. I really don't understand how someone can be completely infatuated with a specail teams player anyways.

And you can knock it with the whole house pet thing. Let's not pass judgment until we've tested all house pets. I guarantee that my dog is much more intelligent than Cooper.

First people I thought about were Peppers and Buckner. Remember a few years back when they were suspended? May be related to all of this.

NFL to help DEA investigation of steroid doctor

    BY BOB GLAUBER
    STAFF WRITER
    March 15, 2005

The NFL yesterday contacted the Drug Enforcement Agency to offer its support for an ongoing investigation involving a South Carolina doctor about possible illegal steroid prescriptions in connection with at least nine current or former Carolina Panthers. The NFL is also conducting its own investigation into the alleged relationships.

Milt Ahlerich, the league's director of security, called the DEA at the request of NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue.

"We offered our full cooperation and assistance, and we are moving forward aggressively with our own internal investigation," said Greg Aiello, the NFL's vice president of public relations.

Dr. James Shortt, a local physician, is under investigation for allegedly prescribing steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs, The State newspaper reported in its Sunday editions. The paper based its story on court records and sources speaking on condition of anonymity.

Panthers general manager Marty Hurney told the paper the team was trying to gather information on the story, but said none of his players has tested positive for steroids.

The NFL said it has no reason to believe the case is indicative of a larger league-wide problem involving steroids. Tagliabue did not issue any league-wide memoranda concerning the case.

According to the report, investigators have audio tapes of conversations between Shortt and his patients, including some Panthers players. The paper did not reveal the identities of the players.

The newspaper said a sworn statement from Dave Lawrence, a State Law Enforcement Division agent, said Shortt has been under investigation since May 2004 when a Columbia, S.C., bodybuilder told the Drug Enforcement Administration that Shortt had a reputation for readily prescribing steroids for patients in exchange for $1,000.

Four months later, authorities raided Shortt's Health Dimensions office and Congaree Pharmacy near the Columbia Metropolitan Airport. State and federal agents seized computer data, at least 21 boxes of patient and medical records and 256 audio cassettes, search documents obtained by The State showed.
