he wasn't happy here. he didn't like charlotte. he likes big city shit. he's probably a little immature about how he handles all that, and it probably spilled over into his work life - like it does. sometimes it's better to part ways for both parties because the fit wasn't good. sure wish it had of been.

The team obviously considered Jenkins a bad apple, talent asside. He was the only one (bar injuries) that didnt show up for summer workouts. We always talked about his weight when he finally did join the team (especially after the knee injury). You dont want a guy that shows less team commitment than everyone else spouting off about other players not having heart, desire or whathaveyou. Thats gonna rub some people the wrong way.Jenkins clearly wasnt moved on because of a lack of talent. He didnt want to be here and he wasnt 100% commited to the team. I have no problem with a coach letting a guy go he doesnt feel is commited and shows it publicly. It just sends a bad message to the rest of the team and it can drag those around him down. Last year wasnt the first time we tried to ship him either. So it was obviously festering underneath for quite some time.I wish it was never an issue because he rose to being one of the best DT's in the league very quickly.

I just wish we made that a performance conditional pick trade. If Jenks gets to the Pro Bowl, we get an extra pick.

Smith rarely if ever attends. Maybe most recently he changed but I don't remember anyone having a problem with him opting out.

he showed up in shape every year. Which is pretty notable, given that Jenkins had two years worth of injuries and came in overweight the two years after that.

which, that last year could be a point of contention. When he came in, the buzz was "he's in great shape" and looked big, then after he left it was "oh yeah, he was 400 lbs."

He showed up looking great his last season here. He's certainly bigger now than when he reported in 07.

people said he looked good. There was debate over whether he was. The team later said he was around 400.

Which is better for him playing two gap than one gap, certainly, but you never want a player to be that big. If he's playing at 400 he's got two years left of being able to play and will diminish quickly.

Then he must have been playing at 450 previously.

the team had concerns over his conditioning. That was the concern over him showing up for conditioning. They were the ones that said 400. Him being a dick and being divisive in the press and locker room isn't catastrophic, but him being overweight/not in great condition, hurt two years in a row, not showing up to be a part of conditioning, and looking for a contract three times what he was getting, I don't blame them for wanting to trade him.
