That's our weak link. Disappointing considering how much we paid Wahle and Hartwig - although not their fault.

Hopefully things will improve. The depth is extremely troubling. Mathis should only get better.

We've never been able to establish a pounding interior run - except in 2003 with Davis and linemen on steroids. Remember pounding Davis against NO at home and running the same play over and over? That whipped ass.

If we can establish that type of running game - look the fuck out. We have a great defense, and some serious weapons in the passing game.

Man - I wish Shelton was who we thought he was.

I thought the starters (OL) looked fine. it was all the back-up crap that needs to be flushed.

Most teams do not have great depth on the OL. We could sure use some of our draft picks to pan out there though. Hangartner, Butler, Montgomery, somebody?

Also remember that Harwig's only been with the starters a short time coming off of his hernia surgery.

Seems like every one we draft is described as "versitile", and can play anywhere on the line. Well it seems that when you draft those kind of guys that do many things well, they dont do any one thing really well.

1st string O-line was pretty decent I thought. Opened some good holes for Deshaun and Jake wasn't pressured.

Everything after that was complete junk. DeAngelo Williams did damned good considering he was getting hit before getting outta the backfield. I'm curious how both he AND Shelton would look with at least a LITTLE blocking.

I've been very critical of the OL the past two years but as far as this year, I'm practicing patience for now.

Reasons for optimism: it was the first preseason game. Hartwig is new, just coming back from surgery and missed a few days of work. It'll probably take him some time to get comfortable making the calls. Mathis is just getting in there. The RB picture is clearer than last year too.

I have hopes for Montgomerey and Butler down the road.

    meatpile is a conclusion jumper

Our line will be noticably improved toward the middle to end of the season over last year. You hear over and over and over about the importance of the line having to gel. Well, we've got good talent and now they just need time. Two series in a preseason game is not time, especially with a new starter and another that has had limited camp time.
