Hey hey, a little Panthers news. Nakamura re-did his deal. I'm okay with him on the team for ST and depth. I guess.

I was expecting him to simply be cut.

Panthers expected to keep DW. The Hurney stupidity has metastasized.

Hmmm, I cannot argue against Hurney being characterized as stupid but I'm not ready to put Gettleman there yet.

Can't get anything in trade if people think we're cutting a player.

Is it better to cut DW after '13 for some reason?

Is it possible they don't trust Stewart to be healthy?

It's likely a concern but we also have a human battering ram at QB and Tolbert

There's a pinned cap thread at the Huddle that's pretty good, if the info is right.

From post #1 in that thread, about DW:

Obviously holding onto him makes future cuts easier but we're 10 million over the cap now.

I believe trading him or cutting him means the remainder of the bonus already paid hits the book in this year verses being able to spread it out so no benefit

It was be nice if we could talk him into a paycut, but he probably realizes how us cutting him hurts our cap. This is just fallout from Hurney being a stupid, short-sighted son of a bitch. There's no real good option for Gettleman here.
