Difference is, as I noted, Sam was very well built and strong. Thurman isn't. Thurman will always be pigeonholed to the weakside, Sam was a middle.

    "TROUBLE IN ATHENS":

GEORGIA junior linebacker ODELL THURMAN was involved in a nightclub incident last weekend that may have led to him being formally arrested... although there have been no arrest papers or charges officially released... a number of current and former Georgia Bulldogs' football players were involved in an arguement that grew into a full-fledged fight at a local area Athens night spot... Thurman was recognized and pointed out by one managers of the establishment who saw him lead away by local authorities after the incident... this is obviously something that needs to be further investigated, but Thurman continues to confound even his biggest supporters... he had several similar type off-field problems that led him to miss several games due to suspension, and initially caused him to attend a military prep school coming out of high school... however, on the flip side, he is a kid that has seen both of his parents already pass away, while also being the father of two small children... there are several teams that feel he will be fine in a structured environment, while others have been left to wonder how he well he will adjust to the NFL lifestyle.

With the steroid issue already clouding the coming season I think when it comes to off field issues we'll tend to be even more conservative then in the past as far as taking a chance on "troubled players". Might go with a guy who perfectly fits our needs if his troubles are minor and he seems truly repentant, but I don't expect to see more then one guy with issues if that.

    LIES BEING TOLD ABOUT ODELL?

Word is that a spurned agent and/or a forlorn financial adviser who are spreading falsehoods about Georgia linebacker Odell Thurman, in the hopes of damaging his standing on draft day.

Per a league source, someone is trying to tie Thurman to a bar fight that broke out last weekend involving some current and/or former Bulldog players. We're told that Thurman, however, was nowhere near the incident.

Thurman is projected in some circles as a late first-round selection.

With character becoming an increasingly important issue for an increasing number of teams, question marks about a guy's propensity to, say, jack a guy upside the head with a sock full of pennies could result in a free fall on draft day.

I've read that some teams are looking at Thurman as an ILB. There are schemes where your guys can be lighter than average, but ours probably isn't one of them. The dearth of ILB prospects in this draft is probably also a factor there.

As for Greene, you can be slow with your feet as long as you have a quick release. Greene is slow everywhere. Arm strengths isn't really above average either.
