if you ever turn on your computer and see an error message saying NTLDR is not found...you are screwed.

    yup... that'll do it too

I was working tech support for Stanly Community college and I was still VERY green... well first time I saw this I went to my boss thinking aw hell we're gonna have to reload this whole machine... we both went back to the office where the computer was located with another tech and my boss pulled the floppy out the drive and restarted the machine... needless to say I felt stupid... and they both picked on me for a while, but said its a mistake that most people make at some point in time... didn't make me feel any less stupid... BUT it taught me to NEVER EVER overlook the small things, because 90% of the time that's actually what's wrong with a computer.

get this....tech support said turning the power off for a few minutes sometimes fixes it..it didn't. So then I unplugged the power cable and plugged it back in...then it worked.
 fockers were saying my hard drive was broken.

I would get it a lot on 98 and it would say Oak Rom or something and then I would pull the floppy out and it was fixed.:)

Oak makes a generic CD driver that's good for most IDE CD drives.

I've seen the NTLDR show up on older IBM's with the mouse and keyboard plugs reversed.

Funny...... Improper preposition of course. I meant to say "look for".
