You guys must be talking about forget as in "forgive and forget" becuase there is no way you can actually forget about it. Foster has a bad fumbling game in college and it's brought up ever time his name is mentioned. Smith punched a teammate and nobody has forgotten. Mitchell was on 60 minutes for using steroids after the baseball incident which you won't forget. No matter what happens I don't see how you can possibly forget.

The point of my thread has nothing to do with Mitchell 'fighting fire with fire', or Mitchell as a victim of circumstance. BTW - none of that justifies his actions imho. Explains - OK. Justifies? No.

The point of the thread was that his image is forever tainted. And for a guy who'd kept a low profile, done his job very well, wasn't injured, and been an all around great guy in ALL regards, it REALLY sucks for him.

He's no longer Jeff Mitchell, Center. He's Jeff Mitchell, "one of the Panthers who took steroids, right?"

That said - I don't feel sorry for him for a second. I have wondered how he explains it to his kids.

I think most do not want to dwell on unpleasant subjects. If the Panthers have great success this year I would think first of Mitchell being our Superbowl center and not of the steroids. I would think of the steroids only when reminded. Winning is more important.

More important than sportmanship or abiding by the rules? Everytime I hear about Mark Gastineau I think of steroids. I don't think it will be any differant for me with regards to our players.

Probably so Chip, look at the popularity of NASCAR. Their underlying theme for years has been "if you ain't cheating you ain't trying." The popularity of NASCAR has soared. If Kevin Harvick wins the Nextel cup you will hear little of the incident with his crewchief.

The only sport that comes to mind that polices itself is golf. Players will disqualify themselves over an inadvertent infraction of the rules. As a spectator sport golf has grown but still lacks the drawing power of the NFL, NASCAR or MLB.

By the way, I hired a soccer instructor to help me with my kicking. I have taken 3 strokes from my golf game.

I thought Smitty was the one that rubbed Icy Hot or whatever in his jock before the games to get "fired up".
