actually, that's not the story at all. Davis had no real hand in it.

In all truthfullness, I believe Ryan has done a good job in building the defense this year. He's had to deal with injuries and young new guys having to step up and start. They've all made gains and I'd hate to lose that and start over with a new D coach.

thats the story I always heard. it was echoed in this article today. if not , what happened?

Fox had plenty of success in his five seasons with the Giants and that led to his hiring by the Panthers in 2002. Fox's career took off in New York after it hit a roadblock in Oakland. Fox was the Raiders' defensive coordinator in 1994 and '95 but resigned in the 1996 training camp after differences with owner Al Davis. Fox spent a year as a consultant with the St. Louis Rams.

Wow....it really has been an eye opener as to where a lot of head coaches have been before they took HC positions!

    yep, that's been reported before.

Way I heard it, it had nothing to do with Davis. Davis suggested he resign for what happened, which was personal/non-football, but Fox caused it with an off-field situation. 'course, the story I was told could be utter bullshit, but either way I'm not saying what Fox did.
